Along with Pumpkin Patches and dressing up in costumes, our family has a few other family traditions that really make it feel like Fall to us!
The first one is attending the local airshow. This year, we opted not to go for the whole thing, but rather stake out a spot less than a mile away and watch the main event from the comfort of our lawn chairs! So, while Emily enjoyed her bottle, and the boys had an afternoon snack, we watched in awe as the amazing Thunderbirds flew right over our heads! It was (as always) spectacular, and I love how each year the boys get more involved and excited about spotting the planes, and watching them do tricks! Such a treat!
The other thing we like to do is decorate cookies. Granted just about any season usually warrants cookie making in our house, but especially in the fall! Now, looking at these pictures, you would think that they are having absolutely no fun at all. That their drill sergeant of a mom is whipping them into icing these cookies! Don't let them fool you! They had fun, and really wanted to make them look good (and TASTE good too!!) They did about three each, got bored, and were ready to eat! Again, I love how much more they get can do each year, and how much more they end up getting to help!
This year we also had the treat of decorating pumpkins. This may surprise you, but I hate goopy messes! I can tell by your silence that you are stunned! Well, just so happens that The Home Depot sells kits that you can spear into your pumpkin to decorate them. No messes, no painting, super cute end result. I was hooked, and the boys had the BEST time making Frankenstein and Halloween (the bat) and make a point of saying "Hi" to them every day!
We had so much fun celebrating fall! I look forward to next year when Emily will get to participate more and will join the boys in saying "it is finally fall!"
